About Us

WI offers you the opportunity to meet other women in a friendly, sociable environment. At our monthly meetings we hear from speakers on a wide range of subjects, discuss topics of immediate interest from a local to national level, as well as catching up with friends and neighbours. We participate, as a group, in village activities and as groups or individuals attend local, county and national events, organised by the WI.

The main aim of the WI movement is the continuing education of women and The National Federation has its own educational establishment, Denman College, which offers a varied programme of courses. A key feature of the WI is that it is a campaigning organisation, with an annual resolution that has its origins at grassroots level and culminates in a national debate. The NFWI is affiliated to an international organisation that seeks to support and improve the lives of women throughout the world.

Visitors are very welcome; come and meet us!

World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

Many, many thanks to our friends and neighbours from Edington and beyond who came to this year’s Macmillan Coffee morning recently. The Hall was full from start to finish as we enjoyed coffee, homemade cakes and catching up on village doings! Thanks to our members who baked an amazing range of cakes and savouries and all who helped on the day. We are especially grateful to those who were unable to attend but gave very generous donations. £450 was raised on the day and electronic payments still to be registered.

Edington Arts

Sing With Us!

There’s a great opportunity to learn from the best and have a really good sing at the same time, on Saturday 13th September, when King’s Singer Chris Bruerton comes to Edington Priory Church to lead a choral workshop for Edington Arts.

If you can read music and have some experience of choral singing, this will be a day you won’t want to miss.  Chris’s huge experience in precision unaccompanied singing and his joy of teaching will combine to give us the skills and confidence to perform (to friends and family) pieces by four very different composers from the King’s Singers’ library: the 16th century polyphonist Orlando di Lassus, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ ‘Over hill, over dale’, Eric Whittaker’s beautiful ‘This Marriage’ and an arrangement of Greensleeves by former King’s Singer Bob Chilcott.

We won’t always be on our own; our good friend Chris Totney will be providing support and piano accompaniment when needed. Anyone who would like copies in advance can contact Anne Curtis on 07977 464375 or anne@edingtonarts.org; the cost of the day at £25 includes music hire and refreshments on arrival and at mid morning.  We’re aiming for a well-balanced choir, and have spaces in all voice parts though unusually, we’re a bit short of sopranos and basses, but we’d love to welcome you whatever voice you are. The more the merrier!

The day runs from 10-4, preceded by registration and followed by tea and cakes to which anyone and everyone is invited before a quick run-through of all we’ve accomplished.

You can book your place online at www.edingtonarts.org/whats-on or by phoning Anne on 01380 831425 | 07877 464375.

Edington Parish Council Emergency Resilience Plan

The PC holds a contingency plan to manage/mitigate against harm and damage to the community in the event of a sudden incident/emergency. This includes the provision of temporary shelter, emergency first aid, road clearance, emergency contact with utility companies.  All Parish Councillors are named individuals on the plan together with volunteers from the village. In the event of an adverse incident, Councillors would liaise and initiate a response and we would ask all villagers, where possible, to check on any of their neighbours who may be at risk in the event of, eg: extreme weather conditions, power outages etc. The names of all Parish Councillors can be found on this website at https://edingtonwiltshire.org.uk/parish-council/
